FIFA World Cup Soccer 2010

The FIFA World Cup Soccer 2010 is on.

Millions of people around the world are anticipating how the Opening Ceremony will unfold in our eyes as the host South Africa has something for us.

The media is upbeat about it. There are wider and in-depth coverage on World Cup Football 2010 in the national newspapers, radio and TV. Then comes the advertisements with the slogans: “Every time we play, we always play the best”, “We play as a team”, “We want to make the country proud”, etc.

Everyone is excited. Some cannot sit still or stop talking. Some even boast about their dream teams. Some are getting ready to predict and to bet with money. Some are planning their schedule to watch their favorite matches or to stay through the nights.

Some family members are very worried about the gambling habits of their family members, fearing that they may borrow from loan sharks who go easy on giving loans.

For the past years, there were many sad incidents and accidents near the end of every World Cup; the media were full of suicide stories, bankruptcies, and family breakdowns.

I love the team spirit of football. I also love the individual skills. And I am looking forward to FIFA World Cup 2010.

But no betting, and no staying through the night; a delayed telecast is good enough for me.

May the best team win.

Welcome to FIFA World Cup Soccer 2010.

  1. Interesting that the World Cup event can trigger gambling problems. The movie Invictus has put Souuth Africa in the limelight. I would like the South African team to win, just to boost their national pride. The Rainbow Nation can use some good news.
