The only real Thirst-Quencher

Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
—John 4:13-14

Jesus encountered a woman at Jacob’s well.

He talked to her about another source of water that would always satisfy.

But He did not speak of a fountain, spring, river, or lake.

He said, “Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life”.

Far greater than any natural spring is the refreshment we have been offered in Christ Himself.

We can be satisfied, for Jesus alone, the Water of Life, can quench our thirst.

Praise God, for Jesus is the source that never runs dry.

In Christ alone we find the water than can quench the thirst of our hearts and draw us ever closer to Him.

The only real thirst-quencher is Jesus the living water.

Justice and Mercy

We live in tension between things that save us and kill us. With fire, we cook our food and keep warm, but in it we can be consumed; with water, we keep our bodies hydrated and our planet cooled, but in it we can drown. Too much or too little of either is life-threatening.

We see the same principle at work spiritually. To thrive, civilizations need mercy and justice. The Lord Jesus scolded the Pharisees for being sticklers about the law but neglecting justice and mercy and faith. (Matt. 23:23).

The Lord Jesus keeps justice and mercy in perfect balance. His death satisfies God’s need for justice and our need for mercy. God’s justice and mercy met at the cross.

How about us?

Jesus The Lamb Of God

John 1:35-37

*******

In these words, John sets forth two important truths regarding the Lord Jesus Christ.

He Is The Savior Of Sinners. He is the “one and only” Lamb of God. He is the only solution to Man’s problem. Man’s problem is that he is a sinner (Rom. 3:10-13). Man’s problem is that his sin is leading him to Hell (Rom. 6:23). Jesus Christ is the only solution to man’s sin problem (Acts 4:12; John 14:6; John 10:9; 1 John 5:12).

He Is The Sacrifice For Sin. He is the “Lamb of God.” This name pictures Jesus as a sacrificial animal. When Jesus came into this world, He came for the sole purpose of going to the cross to die for sin (Mark 10:45). Only His death can satisfy God (1 John 2:2; 4:10). Only His blood can cleanse the sinful soul (1 Pet. 1:18-19; Rev. 1:5). Jesus is the only Lamb God will accept.

*******

We are to trust in the Lord Jesus as our Savior. We are to come to Him for the cleansing power. We are to be washed in the blood of the Lamb. We are to fully trust in His grace every time.
