It is only when we are rich that we can provide for all our needs and wants, and serve others equally well.
It is only when we are powerful that we have the upper hand to do what we want and rule over others.
Some see riches as the chase for money and wealth and material possessions. They try all means to accumulate material riches and display them publicly.
Some see riches as the chase for tender loving care. They treasure family love and mutual friendship. And they seek not to have more conflicts and enemies.
Some see riches as the chase for satisfaction and fulfilment in life. They emphasize feeling and aspiration. And they seek after pleasure and wisdom.
Some see power as physcial in nature. They desire physical strength and military prowess as in ages past. And now they talk about people's power and people's movement. They talk about political, social, economical and technological power.
In short, this is how we see the world and the rule no.1 of survival.
King Solomon chased after all these. But at the end of the day, he admitted that all is chasing after the wind. All is meaningless: wisdom, pleasures, toil, advancement and riches. And we are to give an acoount to God in the Judgment Day.
Earthly gains will never bring forth eternal happiness. It will never really satisfy. Others may continue to extol and praise us, but we remain a poor and weak creature in God's sight.
Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man's all. For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14).
